About Dayton Valley Days
Dayton Valley Days began as a fundraiser for local school children
Dayton Valley Days started in 1989 as a fundraiser to bring "The Arts" to school children in Dayton. A few years later, the fundraiser was switched to the preservation of Old Town Dayton where the monies raised have assisted with the building of the Kiosks, refurbishing the Community Center, and providing matching monies for a grant for the preservation of the Dayton Train Depot.
This year the theme of Dayton Valley Days is “The Community Center: The Heart of the Community." Monies raised will go towards the refurbishment of the community center building.
The building was the site of the 1864 Lyon County Courthouse, which burned to ground in 1909. Utilizing foundation ruins, the high school was built on the site in 1918. The facility was used as a high school until 1959 when the school district began bussing students to Carson City. Then it was used as the elementary school — grades 1 through 8 — until the new school was built. In 1972, the building was reactivated as a junior high school. Years later, it was tranformed into the Dayton Community Center.
